Religious Education Bulletin Notes: September 20th

Our Lady of Refuge Parish promises to be a strong support to your family by being a faith-filled parish community with numerous prayer and worship opportunities. This year we will be using the Word of Life series by Augustine Institute/Ignatius Press for grades 1-6 and Chosen by Ascension for grades 7-8. 

Sessions run September 21st - April 19th

Monday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:30pm in the OLR Social Hall and Classrooms

Sacraments

Sacrament registration will occur during our initial parent meetings. Please register your child for Religious Education Classes and you will be notified of when the sacrament registration meetings are. 

First Communion - April 17th, 2027 

If your child is at least 7 years old and has completed at least one year of Religious Education prior to this upcoming year, you may register them to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion this year. 

Confirmation

If your child has already made their First Communion, is in 7th grade or above, and has completed their first year of the Chosen program, you may register them for our Year 2 Confirmation prep program.

Confirmation will be during the 4pm Mass at Prince of Peace in West Bloomfield on April 10th, 2027. Retreat and rehearsal dates and time TBD. 

We will meet every Monday. Some days will be lessons from Chosen and some days will be focused on completing additional requirements for the program as follows:

Our Confirmation Preparation Program Includes:
 - Completion of Y1 and Y2 of Ascension's Chosen Series
 - Three forms of service completed with reflections (Worship, Parish Community,      Local Community) 
 - Guidance on writing a letter to the Bishop, formally requesting to be Confirmed
 - In depth studies of the lives of saints in order to choose a Confirmation name
 - Pre-Confirmation Interview with each candidate
 - Opportunities for confession
 - Confirmation Retreat

Adults inquirers who are seeking more information about joining the Catholic Church should follow the OCIA link.

Adults who are already Catholic and seeking to grow their faith should use the parish login to the FORMED online platform. Adults studies may be offered in the fall based on shared interest. Contact the Stephanie Gordon at [email protected] for suggestions if you are not sure where to begin or would like to lead a study.

Sometimes, the best way to learn more about something is to teach it! The parish is seeking volunteer catechists to help instruct children in the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith. Please prayerfully consider donating your time and talent to this ministry. You may be surprised at how much you learn from the children.
